Highstreet Haul and Visions for my Autumn Wardrobe

Hello lovelies! I thought I would take a break from my Student Life series and share with you my plans for my autumn wardrobe. The past 2 years I’ve been trying to condense my wardrobe and really hone in on my style.

I’ve realised that I tend to gravitate to more ‘business casual’  rather than the street/ athleisurewear style that’s popular right now. For some strange reason I seem to feel more comfortable in jeans and a shirt than I am in sweatpants and a hoodie.

This is really amusing to me as when I was younger I was the biggest tomboy and I NEVER left the house in anything but sportswear. My whole wardrobe literally comprised of an array of differed coloured Nike hoodies.

Of course, I still wear hoodies and trainers are one of my staple items in my wardrobe. But, I like to give everything a more formal edge, and I’ve been busy picking up pieces that help bring that aspect to my wardrobe.

The Vision

My colour palette is as follows:

Basic colours :                            Off white                   Grey                    Black

Primary colours:                        Navy                  Pale Pink                    Khaki

Accessory Colours:                          Burgundy                       Periwinkle

Key pieces:

Shirts

Dark Denim

Smart flats

Accessories such as scarves and jewellery

The Haul:

Navy and cream check top

Navy and white check top from highstreet store Marks & Spencers

My eyes were immediately drawn to this large check print top when I walked in to Marks & Spencers. I’m not much of a t-shirt person, but it stays pretty hot until mid October in England and lectures theatres always have the heating on. I wanted something I could throw on but still stands out.

Grey teddy coat

Grey teddy coat from highstreet store Tesco

I’ve been seeing these teddy coats in a few different shops and i’m sure they are going to be a big trend. I tried one on in Marks & Spencers but it was far too long (short people problems). However, I saw this one in Tesco for only £22 and it fits perfectly!I think it will be great for those warmer autumn months when you just need a light jacket.

Taupe penny loafers from Dororthy Perkins

If your a follower then you may have seen these in my university wardrobe essentials post.I already have a black brogues and a pair of black loafers but I felt like I needed another colour. These ones from Dorothy Perkins are sleeker than my others so will pair nicely with more delicate outfits.

Black highwasited jeans from Topshop

Black highwaited jeans from highstreet store Topshop

Everyone needs a pair of black jeans. My others had completely faded so it was definitely time for a new pair. I invested a little more money into these Topshop ones and I’m so glad I did. The stretchy fabric hugs your figure and is really flattering.

Black cigarette trousers from Topshop

Black cigarette trousers from Topshop
I’ve never been a major fan of Topshop but they’ve been doing amazing recently. For example, these high waist cigarette trousers in Petite. I have never been able to find trousers that fit me well. I have an odd body shape and they are always cling to my thighs and calves, so I was dubious at first. However, when I saw that they cost only £22 pounds I had to try them.

I will admit that the size 8 I bought are a little big on the waist. But they are definitely the best fit I’ve found so I’m keeping them, they look fine with a belt. I’m seriously considering buying the other colours so I’ll maybe try a size 6 when I buy those.
